we cant use the school vans to transport people not on the club team (go figure), and renting the bus is expensive......

public transportation can be a bit of a hurdle to manage an entire group

Damn. There's gotta be a loophole for that. i.e. put everyone on the second/ third string of the club team.

Just to clarify, even though they are a part of the club rec players can't ride in the vans? That doesn't sound right...

I can't help but find this situation to be funny.

They wont allow "second" or "third" string.

We simply cant have 20+ people on the club sports team. They want it to be limited to a small group of highly competitive players that compete in tournaments. Whereas the rec club would cater to people that just want to play whenever, for fun, and get a discount while doing it.

We've already tried putting everyone on the club roster... just doesn't work. And our admins are not nice people so it's not something we can try to force on them.

The club sports vans are for club sports...so nobody but club sports players can ride in them. It's a liability thing.

2 seniors graduate, some people may not return, I would guesstimate about 4 spots will be up for grabs.

Transportation issue

Postby SB Pyro on Wed May 07, 2008 9:14 pm

We used the NU van since one of the members was a driver,
but you need to schedule it early enough. For the yearly game we would rent a bus and that was paid out by the student activities budget we received.
If you need an advisor for the club I would suggest Jeff Doughty (Laboratory director), Last I checked his office is in the MIME office. Unfortunately the previous advisor doesn't seem to be in the Chem Eng dept anymore.
For rec games we use send an email to our group list and declare when, where and available spaces. We would confirm via email how many and then leave from Chicken Lou's that day.

We have no problems for transporting members of the actual team, but on the rec team isn't allowed to be transported in the vans. We have an advisor too, so thats not a problem.

Unless things have changed

Postby SB Pyro on Fri May 09, 2008 2:35 am

Doesn't NUHoc still take the van to take "members" up to the Lodge?
Again things could have changed since I have been there.

It's rare that NUHOC takes the vans out at all. They reserve them mostly for large trips like Acadia, Winter Carnival, and such. Trips to the lodge are usually small and people drive themselves up in personal cars.

Student groups, such as what our Rec Division will be, can reserve and take vans.. but they cannot take the vans that our Club Team reserves. The Club vans are for Club teams only.
If you guys find somebody that is willing to take the driving test, is at least 21 years old with a 3 year clean driving record, and that person is willing to drive you out.. then you can reserve vans for your trips -- I'm pretty sure, at least, not a definite fact.

I'll be starting at NEU in the fall as a freshman, and I was wondering if you will be holding tryouts/practices at some point. I formerly played on Monster Paintball's Sabotage team. Let me know when/if there are open spots on the team. Thanks
