Scenario Paintball

Postby Mike Griest on Thu Feb 14, 2008 4:58 pm

At the December meeting I asked if there was any interest in going to play scenario games as a team and the response I got was something like:

"The rec team will hopefully get to play some woodsball games."

Do any of you play Scenario games? Personally, that's where I have the most fun. I always go with a bunch of friends and camp out, grill food, have some beer... it's great! You can play at whatever pace you want (good for noobs). The games are huge (thousands of players). You get to be outdoors in the woods. I record footage with a helmet cam. (kinda just free writing here). Artillery strikes. Smoke grenades. Flares. Night vision goggles. Castles. Villages. Forts. Storming Omaha beach. Ambushing enemy patrols. Vendors representing every different company with special deals. People dressed in full uniform. Markers that you don't see anywhere else. Tanks!

I've played in about 20 scenario games. My favorite way Oklahoma D-Day 2007. Me, my girlfriend, and my 3 closest friends rented an RV for 13 days, road tripped to OK and played all week ending in the D-Day game. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Cost $1500 per person though :(

So, the question is "Am I the only one of us that likes this stuff?" There are a lot of scenario paintball teams and they have a huge impact on the game's outcome.

Some of the most fun I've ever had playing paintball was scenario ball. I've done d-day at skirmish in '04, '05, and '06. I have no comparison to OK d-day, but I've read the skirmish one is bigger...

I've been to 4 or 5 Skirmish D-Days. They are bigger. (At least the D-Day game is). OK D-Day is a bigger event (more people total over the course of a week), but Skirmish has more people on the field at one time. Everyone says Skirmish 07 D-Day sucked. Glad I missed it.

Skirmish is capping this year's ION (Invasion of Normandy) game at 3,000 people. Last year they had 4,300 give or take. This should make it more manageable for them and should cut down on the safety problems. I'll be playing on the Allied side (was German last three times not including OK) with several friends/family. I should be bringing around 14 people.

I've done one scenario in Florida - Star Wars... it was fun and I would do it again. Played with Bud Orr and the Sin City Raiders all weekend for free. Ultimately, I'm more of a tournament player so I'll stick to that.

And yes, eventually once the student group is up and there is interest (this is important for funding)... we will be able to do big events. If there is a local scenario event, we will most likely attend. The further away the event, the more unlikely it is that we will go (its hard to get permission to transport a group of students a long way...and its expensive). It is certainly something that I want to do for the group.

I grew up in south florida, I would always hear about big scenarios taking place in the north near Jacksonville. I've never gone to one, but scenarios are awesome and I've always been interested in being in one.

How does a star wars scenario work? Did everyone carry around a lightsaber to deflect the 'blaster' shots?

the story line is designed around star wars. The missions, bases, teams, etc. You don't really have to go with it...although a lot of people will go with it by designing costumes and tanks and stuff.
